Actor Xolo Mariduena (Cobra Kai) recently started a friendly feud with Bad Bunny over the title roles they landed in their upcoming superhero films.
Last summer, Maridueña was announced as the lead in DC’s blue beetle, which will be DC’s first film centered on a Latin character. Last week, Marvel-Sony announced that Bad Bunny was taking on the role of El Muerto in his own movie. To like blue beetle and DC, El Muerto will break down barriers by becoming the first Latin character to get his own Marvel movie.
On her Instagram Stories, Maridueña joked when she learned that Bad Bunny was going to perform El Muerto. He posted images of himself next to Blue Beetle and a pair of photos of Bad Bunny and El Muerto from a Marvel comic where the character battles Spider-Man. “No, Blue Beetle whoopin’ El Muertos ass,” he wrote. “I want all that smoke daddy.”
Xolo Maridueña also released the release dates for both films, August 18, 2023, for blue beetle and on January 12, 2024, for El Muerto. Maybe he just wanted to remind everyone who was hitting theaters first. When he was first cast, he said he was “beyond grateful to be able to fill those huge shoes as one of the first Latino superheroes on the big screen.”
Maybe somewhere, one day, Blue Beetle and El Muerto will team up to fight for Latinos around the world. It’s a multiverse that we can all follow.
